For example since I was working on my mythtv box anyway I decided to use the synaptic package manager to do some overdue patches/upgrades. Having the remote admin setup can be very useful. Performance for text and browsing feels pretty much like I am on the local machine, however somethings are tied to the local IP (mythfrontend) and won't run (need to dust off my X admin skills). The guide above was not that helpful for the ubuntu side of things (everything was pretty easy to setup in edgy via the GUI.) but the setup on windows was spot on.

The xming stuff is slick for a free package. In the past I've used hummingbird and cygwin.\ This will get you going, but you want to look into securing it.Įdgy user here and I found this thread useful for setting up remote admin of my mythTV box.īased on this thread I just went the XDMCP/Xming route. Had it up and running in 5 minutes and was looking at my ubuntu login screen from my winxp machine. The easiest thing I have found is Xming on SourceForge.
